Pictures taken in the United States focus on railroad scenes and views of towns. Pictures include a camp in the snow near the Rio Grande River (showing a Central Pacific Railroad kitchen car, and a house made of railroad ties for Mexican railroad workers); general views of Bisbee (Ariz.), Caliente and Piru (Calif.); a ferry in the San Francisco Bay (showing Chinese passengers); a parade in El Paso (Tex.); a warehouse of the Lake Tahoe Railroad and Transportation Co. on fire; ; Theodore Roosevelt at Mission Santa Barbara; a collapsed tunnel of the Southern Pacific Railroad; a SPRR wreck in Santa Barbara; and various locomotives and train cars. Photos from outside the United States show Burckhalter family trips and general touristic views of the following locations: Havana (Cuba), Colombia, Panama City, Guatemala, Mazatlan, and the South Pacific (Pago-Pago and Samoa). Many of the touristic views show ruins, city scenes, buildings, street markets, etc. Also present is a large group portrait of the Oakland High School class of 1896(?), which includes Rose Brydges (Mrs. Frank Burckhalter)
